The children and young people that we support in our social work team are first and foremost vulnerable children and young people who are looked after by the local authority.  The children and young people that we support have experienced trauma which most of us would struggle to understand, both in their country of origin and on their journey to the UK.  You will work with sensitivity, empathy, passion and importantly in partnership with a number of local and national organisations to safeguard children who may have been trafficked into the UK or at risk of other forms of exploitation.

This will also involve liaising with the Home Office to secure their legal status and residency likewise you may also be required to undertake specialist assessments such as age assessments.  With support and training you will become familiar with legislation, statutory guidance and relevant case law to guide your work, but your social work skills and values will be at the heart of what you do.

Initially and in the main you will be working with children and young people for whom English is not their first language and working with interpreters and other professional in a skilled manner to resonate the needs and voice of each child is a must.

With a Diploma in Social Work (or equivalent) under your belt, you will be a HCPC-registered professional who is confident enough to be fully accountable for the actions of your team.  You will therefore work closely with them and with various agency partners to build an innovative team environment in which your staff are inspired and motivated to always achieve more.  Good financial management, excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to digest and interpret complex reports are also essential.
